Foundation Course: Part 1

  • Theory 1: “Big 4 Things to do with the body”: Articulate, Connect, Mobilize and Strengthen

This talk introduces a unifying model for how to work with the body and what we need to do.

  • Part 1: The Hips and Low Back

    Why do we start here?

    • Improving spine mechanics has the greatest global effect - spinal mechanics influence everything upstream and downstream, from the foot to the hand and neck.

    • During loaded movements, the trunk serves to transmit force so big muscles do big work.

    • At the Shoulder - mid-back (thoracic) mobility is the foundation of good shoulder function

The following lessons go through a series of movement lessons and teach some basic exercises and homework.

Lesson Outline:

  • Lesson 1: Body Scan and Rolling the Pelvis

  • Lesson 2: Connecting the “Core”

  • Lesson 3: Hip Extension

  • Lesson 4: Stretching the Hip Flexors

  • Lesson 5: Hip Hinge-ing and Posterior chain strength

  • Lesson 6: Mobilizing the feet, mid-back and shoulders.
